Griffin Burkholder lifts Freedom-South Riding past Patriot; Thursday's other high school results

BASEBALL

FREEDOM-SOUTH RIDING 2, PATRIOT 1: Griffin Burkholder went 3 for 3 with two RBI Thursday to lead the Eagles (5-0, 8-6) to the Cedar Run District win.

Burkholder hit a homer to left field in the third inning and singled in the fifth and the seven innings.

Patriot (2-3, 7-5) led 1-0 after the first inning. Burkholder's home run provided Freedom's two runs.

Ryan Pugh got the win. He struck out nine and allowed one hit and no earned runs in seven innings.

Matthew Bishop allowed two earned runs and five hits and struck out five in seven innings. He took the loss for Patriot.

SOFTBALL

POTOMAC 6, OSBOURN 3: Mikayla Amos recorded two RBI and two hits for Potomac (4-3).

Ava Patterson earned the win. She allowed six hits and no earned runs in seven innings, while striking out seven and walking two.

BOYS LACROSSE

FREEDOM-SOUTH RIDING 10, PATRIOT 8: For Patriot (2-1, 5-3), Tyler Schmelzer scored three goals, Cade Blaha and Blake Sherin two each and Wyatt Holden one.

COLONIAL FORGE 13, MASSAPONAX 2: On senior night, Jason Rubio scored 3 goals with 2 assists for Colonial Forge.

Michael Goben had 1 goal, 1 assist, and 9 out of 10 faceoff wins.

Cael Sandberg, Reef Krug, Michael Howell and Jackson Snipes each tallied a goal.

Zach Seward snagged 5 ground balls.
