Police have identified two men found dead Thursday morning in a vehicle submerged in a pond in Chantilly.
The call originally came in just after 7:25 a.m. as a water rescue in the 3900 block of Centerview Drive near the Staybridge Suites hotel. Fire and rescue boats were deployed on the pond to search for the vehicle, which was found at approximately 7:53 a.m. about 10 feet deep in the water, FFXnow reported.
The two men were pulled out of the vehicle around 8:20 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a news release.
Police identified the driver as 55-year-old Karna Khadka and passenger as 20-year-old Nischal Bhatta, both of Chantilly.
"Preliminarily, detectives believe the vehicle was being operated in a private parking lot when it went over the curb and down a hill into the pond," the release said. "The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated."

This accident didn't just happen near the Staybridge Suites hotel, it was in their parking lot. If you look at Google street view in the parking lot, you can see how this could easily happen if the parking lot was icy. There is nothing to stop a car from sliding into the pond. I'm surprised the county allowed them to build it the way they did. It seems like an obvious hazard to me.
Will these be Paul's most sensible comment for 2025?
Stay tuned...

No Big Donald, it won't as it is wrong. The car was not at the Staybridge Suite but rather in the parking lot of the Wingate by Wyndham hotel. They had gone there to apply for a job.
Sorry to hear that this pond jumped out in front of the car. Perhaps you should place the blame where it belongs…on the driver.
