Police on Monday arrested a 20-year-old Manassas Park man wanted for murder in a Jan. 9 shooting that left a Woodbridge man dead.
Marlon Osvaldo Bautista of the 100 block of Scott Drive in Manassas Park is charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in a felony, police said in a news release.
Officers were called to Sunset Drive off Sudley Road in the Manassas area at 6:19 p.m. Jan. 9 to investigate a shooting. When they arrived, there were no signs of injuries, and any involved parties had left the scene, said Prince William County police Master Officer Renee Carr.
Police then received information that a 22-year-old man was being treated at an area hospital for gunshot wounds.
"Further investigation revealed two groups were involved in an altercation that escalated while in the above area," Carr said. "During the encounter, gunfire was exchanged before the parties left the area in separate vehicles."
The victim, identified as Calvin Tyshaun Odell Batson, was driven to an area hospital where he later died.
In May, Bautista pleaded guilty to a felony drug possession charge from August 2023 in Prince William County Circuit Court, but the case was placed into "deferred disposition" and Bautista was not sentenced, according to court records. A "further disposition" hearing is scheduled for June. Also in 2023, Bautista was also charged with misdemeanor failure to produce a weapons permit. The case was later dismissed, court records show.

The crime marked Prince William County's first murder of 2025. Last year, there were 22 homicides in the county, Carr said.

Thank you for your comment. I do indeed vote in every election, primaries included, and have done so for at least the past 20 years. Also, I did note that police did their part and that the individual was "let go," and able to committ more crime and harm more people. I also asked that we hold the Commonwealth Attorney responsible, alongside Newsham, Hill, Shorter and the entire BOCS, as each one shares responsibility in the demise of our county. When you have LOW CRIME and it increased by 70%, you still have LOW CRIME.
If you have only 20 murders and you gain another 14 that is a 70%. But in a population of over 400K you still have one of the lowest murder rates in America.
Compare 2024 to 2014 (its called a LONG TERM TREND). 2023 was much better than 2014.
In 2024 PWC dropped, which means 2023 was a short term spike consistent with the US as a whole. We still have lower than US and VA crime in 2023.

We often hear "if only I would have known" or "how could I have missed this" when we refer to troubled youth. In this case situation, we see another young person with a weapon, and drugs, arrested by police and let go by the court system in our very own PWC. Instead of asking how it was missed that this person needed help, we should all be asking, how long until the citizens of PWC stand up to the policies and people in place that continue to allow the murdering and killing of our neighbors, by drugs or weapons. The Chief, Sheriff, District Attorney and even BOS all need to be held accountable for their complacency and ineptitude in stopping offenders from being "let go" and continuing to kill and harm our community.
