The natural habitats of Virginia and the animals that rely on them are seriously threatened by the state’s fast development and population growth. Many of Virginia’s plant and animal species are in danger of going extinct because of habitat loss brought on by urbanization, agriculture and other human activities.
In addition to putting biodiversity at risk, this also jeopardizes essential ecosystem services that are necessary for the communities of Virginia to thrive, such as clean water and air.
Premise 1: The loss of habitat brought on by development, agriculture and other human activities puts many of Virginia's plant and animal species in danger of extinction.
Premise 2: Species losing their habitat not only endangers their species, but also has terrible consequences for clean air and water that affects the state of Virginia as a whole.
Premise 3: Virginia is quickly diminishing natural ecosystems and habitats that are not being sufficiently protected by current laws and regulations.
Premise 4: Ecotourism, outdoor entertainment and quality of life are all sustainable activities that are supported by proactive preservation of habitats.
In conclusion, before it’s too late, Virginia has to pass and appropriately fund stricter laws and incentives to preserve and connect the state’s surviving natural areas.

[thumbup] It's been 50 years since there was any concern in the USA about environmental preservation. Today it's all about growth-for-the-sake-of growth with no concern about the future by anyone in positions of responsibility and authority, including media publishers, I was appalled to see a slick on-line informercial (where could it have appeared?) promoting agricultural land in Loudoun County sprawl developed into McMansions on large lots. Where's our children's and grandchildren's food going to be grown in 30 years? Former rainforests in South America? Certainly not locally.
That's deregulation for ya!
