State police said a Culpeper driver immediately stopped at the scene after striking a 73-year-old man walking along Orange Road in Madison County on Friday evening.
Virginia State Police say the 41-year-old Culpeper man was driving a 2014 Ford F-350 west on State Route 230 just east of Oneals Road at 5:55 p.m. when he was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian, who was walking southbound in the road. The driver immediately stopped.
The pedestrian, Eldon L. Yoder, 73, of Pratts, died at the scene, said state police Sgt. Brent Coffey said.
The crash remains under investigation.
