Michael Edwards will remain with the Colorado Rapids for at least one more season.
The Woodbridge native and Freedom High School graduate signed a contract with the Major League Soccer franchise that will keep him in the organization through 2025. The deal includes an option for 2026, the Rapids announced Monday.
“Michael is a player who has progressed through our system, gaining experience with both the First Team and Rapids 2, and we believe he has the qualities to contribute at a high level,” said Colorado Rapids Sporting Director Fran Taylor. “Our hope is that Michael can take the next step in his career here in Colorado and become an important piece among our group of central defenders.”
Edwards joined the Rapids as a Homegrown Player before the 2021 season after they acquired him from D.C. United.
In four seasons, the 24-year-old defender has made four regular-season appearances and two starts for Colorado. He has also competed with the Rapids 2 team the last three seasons.
